The rolling hills and trails surrounding northern Minnesota’s Fishhook Lake are the setting for the Fishhook Challenge Half Marathon and 5K run a summertime road race around the shores of the lake from which the race gets its name. An out and back loop race that starts and finishes at Heartland Park, near the entrance to the Heartland trail.
The Half Marathon is a scenic run around Fishhook Lake (clockwise) starting at the Heartland Park entrance parking lot. The middle miles have rolling hills. At mile 12, runners are back on the Heartland Trail for a flat and fast finish into the park. There will be 4 aid stations available at mile 4, 10km, 9, and 11 with sports drink and water.
The 5km course is fairly flat and fast. It starts by the tennis courts in the middle of Heartland Park. There will be one aid station at the turn around point with sports drink and water.
The Half Marathon and 5K courses are also USATF certified with accurate miles marked.
Both races finish at the same location. Awards are given in 10 year age groups, as well as the overall male and female winners receive a special award or trophy.
